Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located? How can I get there?

We are located in San Pedro, Belize on the north side of the island in an area called Secret Beach. It’s about 20-40mins golf cart drive depending where you are staying. Once you see the Secret Beach sign you want to turn left before it and a road will lead you to a big blue house. Someone in a Blue Bayou uniform will greet and guide you to our parking area. We have a more detailed video up on our Instagram page.

Do you take reservations?

Unfortunately we don’t since we are a walk up beach restaurant and in high demand but we always recommend to our customers to arrive between 11am-1pm to ensure a table. All tables including the water are first come first serve and some of our new water tables are shareable. The weekends are always busier especially Sunday so try to come early.

What makes you different?

Since 2018, Blue Bayou has been serving up a different kind of beach day. As Secret Beach’s first and only overwater restaurant & bar and the birthplace of Belize’s in-water table concept, we didn’t follow the Secret Beach scene — we helped shape it. We bring locals and visitors together in a place where everyone feels comfortable and at home, with genuine Belizean hospitality, fresh seafood, all-day happy hour, and tropical cocktails all served right in the Caribbean Sea.

What are your hours?

Our hours as of right now for slow season are 6 days a week from 10am to sunset , closed on Tuesdays. When we start to get busier and high season comes then we will be open all week long. We always post on our socials if we will be open or closed due to an event, weather or an emergency— so follow us to keep in the loop. Side note, lots of other bars on the beach will tell you that we are closed or something happened to convince you not come to us so just double check our pages or DM us to confirm.

Are you near the cruise port?

Unfortunately, we are not near any cruise ports since we are on an island far from the mainland. But if you were wanting to attempt to get to us, you would either have to go by boat or by plane in Belize City. The boat option is cheaper but is about a two hour ride versus the plane service is only 15 minutes from either the main airport or from the municipal, but it’s at a higher price. Then you would either have to rent a golf cart for the day or hire a taxi to drive up to our restaurant and bar. Both options are around the same price, but the golf cart gives you more freedom.

Do you provide vegetarian and vegan options?

Yes, we do. We tried to accommodate all forms of dietary restrictions to the best of our ability. Just have to let our waiters know when you order what your allergies or dietary restrictions are so you get the best food possible.

What forms of payment do you accept and what currency you use?

We take all major credit cards like Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, and AMEX. The only one we don’t take is Discover. For AMEX users, we do charge a 4% fee that is mandatory by our bank. Make sure you will always bring cash just in case our machines don’t work. All of our prices are in Belize and we always run your tab in Belize dollars but we do tell you in USD upon request. We do also accept US dollars as our second form of currency, the exchange rate is 2 BZD = 1USD.

How does your system work and what is the process to start a tab?

Our system is a little different than most bars. Upon arrival, our waiters greet you and give you the lowdown. They ask if you want to start a tab and we need a credit card on file that will be taken to the cashier and put on our board. We do not run your card unless you authorize us to. This is just to hold it as collateral and get to know your name. This allows you to order food and drinks while you are in the restaurant. We go by your name that is on the card so there are no mixups, what you order is what you order. If you’re in a large group, you will need separate cards if you’re not paying together so that there is no confusion or a long wait time so we can separate your tabs. When you are ready to pay, you can go to the cashier, Let her know your name, and you can either pay by cash or the card. We do charge an automatic 20% gratuity if your tab is over $200bz. If you do leave without paying, we run your card and add a tip on top until you come and pick it up.

Do you accept outside liquor or food?

No, we don’t accept any outside food or drinks, especially your duty-free bottles of liquor. We do have most of the popular liquor so there is no need to consume your own and plus it’s just polite. If you would like to consume your own alcohol, there is a mandatory cork fee. Depending on the type of alcohol that you have you it will be charged to your tab at the cashier’s judgment. Don’t hide the bottles from us or you’ll be charged more. If you wish not to consume it, you may put it in your golf cart at your own discretion or keep it with the cashier or lock it up in our lockers that we have in the restaurant to rent.

Is it safe to leave my stuff on the golf cart?

Unfortunately, it’s not. Even though we do have somebody at our parking lot, security cameras and a security guard we can’t always be watching since we are busy and lots of people come into the property. We are not responsible for anything that is left or stolen on the golf cart. San Pedro is relatively a safe place but there are still people out there that look on golf carts specifically for what they can take. We do have lockers available for rent so that you can keep your stuff safe.

Are kids allowed?

Yes, they are more than welcome, but it is advised that they come during the week. The weekends are a lot more adult since we have DJs that play uncensored music and some people may be sensitive to that. There’s also a lot more visitors looking to party and consume more.

Do you have jet skis?

No, we do not have any jet skis or associate with any jet ski companies. After many accidents and unpleasant encounters, we have decided that we will no longer calling for jet skis or have them around. You are welcome to walk the beach and it the jet skis from the other side.
